- Worked for David Bloom creating the basic architecture for the
site. This is based on the Ann Arbor Observer magazine content. The
information under City Guide was input and organized by me,
including header information and manual links to other parts of the
Guide. The interface has changed since I worked on it.
- Argus Associates
- January - February 1998
- With a team of indexers, created browsable indexes using metatags for
a large client's Intranet content. Aided the project manager in
organizing online the huge collection of data from the client.
- College of Engineering
- October 1997 - June 1998
- Worked for Jeff Stuit evaluating the Verity search engine for use on
the college's web pages. Involved deciphering the documentation and
working on options for metatag indexing of the search collections. Also
created research center and student society databases that allowed for easy
input of current content by authors via the Web, initially populated and
maintained by me. Now replaced by a Google search engine.
- Engineering Information Inc. (Ei)
- October 1997 - March 1998
- Was offered the job of taking the search strategies Ei uses in their
pre-formatted spotlight searches of Compendex and re-evaluating them for
their clari.net news service, due to poor initial results. Completed 251
spotlight searches from all disciplines of engineering.
- Engineering Resource Center
(ERC)
- June - August 1996
- Worked for Jeff Stuit creating images from a color brochure
published by the ERC. Used Photoshop 4.0 for recreating the images.
Also used HoTMaiL to create pages for separate research programs.
- Globewide Network Academy
- November 1997 - March 1998
- Online project recategorizing the Science section of the Distance
Learning Catalog. Involved rethinking the structure of each of the
disciplines within Science and using remote access to shift courses.
- Humanities Text Initiative
- October 1997 - June 1998
- Created fields for a database for the Bentley Image Project. Also
inputted and troubleshooted the records themselves. Worked on other
online image projects for John Weise, mapping Dublin Core metadata
elements to database fields for use in the image architecture.
- the Internet Public Library
- January - August 1995
- Under the direction of Joe Janes, initially as part of a class
project, was one of the founders of the Internet Public Library. Created
original materials on choosing an Internet Service Provider, navigating
various Web browsers, and using search engines and catalogs on the Web.
Was content developer for the Biology collection. Was technical guru for
the Service for Librarians category.
- Media Union
Library
- September 1995 - June 1996
- Worked for Terry Lee initially checking all pages of the website to
be sure that links were operational. Instituted a template format for
inclusion of new pages. Solicited new content from librarians. Helped
with the restructuring and redesign of the website towards the end of
my tenure with the library. Web design has dramatically changed since
my departure.
- UM Library Associates
- October 1995 - June 1996
- Asked to create by Maurita Holland, head of the University Library
Associates program. Entirely created by me, maintained by others as the
years have passed. Now defunct.
- Washtenaw Community College
- June - August 1996
- Worked with Chris O'Bryan to create a substantially different web
page structure and design. Chris was the graphic artist; I was the
organization guru. Worked with faculty members, the library and
affiliated organizations to create a smoothly functioning site. The
graphics have changed since I was with the project.
